What does a science club do to prepare to be all they can be at the next big competition?

They go to science camp!

Science camp is fun! Especially out in the woods where deer stop by to see what we are doing! The people at Nebraska 4-H are great! They have a camp out in the woods where we can go all day and camp overnight to get away from the distractions in town. We bring in our FLL stuff, spread out around the big room and set up stations. Adult volunteers somehow manage to keep the peace at the stations while we do our thing: we build, we program, we take breaks that are fun, we build some more, did I mention that we program?

It takes more than one hundred pieces of highly efficient object code to tell the robot want we want it to do as it goes around the game board completing missions. Have you ever programmed a robot? If you have done this you know that you must tell the robot every small detail that must be done to get the mission accomplished. Our brains are wonderful things. It would take most of the day to write the program to tell the robot how to imitate our behavior from the time we wake up in the morning, start the day, get dressed and get to breakfast – every little detail and movement must be recorded, studied and written in robot language!
